Register for the HSPT
The High School Placement Test is required to apply to Xavier. It's offered on two Saturdays in December. She takes it once, on the date you choose.
Three Things to Know First...
1. The test is taken once.
She sits the HSPT one time. Choose December 5 or December 12, whichever works for your family. If something changes, call us and we'll do what we can; but plan on the date you pick.
2. The score does more than admissions.
Her overall score is used for admission, academic placement, and scholarship awards. It's not simply pass or fail. It helps determine which classes she starts in and what aid she may be offered.
3. If she's testing at another school, she still needs to come here for the essay.
The writing sample is specific to Xavier. If she takes the HSPT at a different school, she must contact our Admissions Office to register for the make-up essay — offered only on Saturday, December 12, from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. Without it, her application is incomplete.
What She'll Sit For
The HSPT is the standard Catholic high school entrance exam. There are 298 multiple-choice questions spread over five timed sections:
Verbal Skills
Quantitative Skills
Reading
Mathematics
Language Skills
Every question is worth one point. There's no penalty for a wrong answer, so she should answer everything.
Plus a writing sample. Xavier includes an essay that the other schools don't. The prompt is given that morning so there's nothing to prepare. It's used to place her academically.

She may bring: a small snack and a water bottle. Nothing else is needed.
She may not bring: a calculator. Phones must be turned off, and smart watches aren't permitted.
What to wear: whatever's comfortable. There's no dress code for test day.
Testing Fee
The testing fee is $50. Two ways to pay:
